About

Before Philip entered the wine world, he studied retail and sales business in Hamburg and worked for companies like Media-Saturn-Holding, Apple and Samsung.

After a game-changing documentary about the French wine culture, he decided to study wine business at the well-known wine university Geisenheim in Germany and at Plumpton College in the United Kingdom.

During his studies, he interned at several wineries, worked as a bar manager, held wine tastings and worked some years as a sales manager for a wine merchant.

Philip gained comprehensive experiences at Kai Schätzel´s winery in Nierstein, Rheinhessia. Kai is specialised in the production of white wine and well-known for his grand cru sites.

Upon the successful completion of his wine studies he started to work for Aymeric Paillard´s winery La vigne des pères in Tournon. Aymeric´s is an artisan winemaker whose viticultural philosophy is the production of Syrah of St. Joseph and Cornas.

To work for and with these exceptional winemakers helped to understand the different winemaking techniques with the highest organic/biodynamic standards.

Additional to all these experiences, blind tastings after work/university with fellow students were extremely beneficial to understand the work of winemakers, philosophy, winemaking techniques and style.

All these practical experiences were the needed insights to understand the world of fine wines from all different angles and are the foundation of Vin de Terroir.
